originally published: 02/07/2024

(NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents an evening of 70's Soul Jam with some of the most timeless and most significant groups of the 70's - The Stylistics, The Delfonics, The Manhattans, and Peaches & Herb on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 8:00pm.

The Stylistics, The Delfonics, The Manhattans, and Peaches & Herb are some of the longest-standing and most accomplished soul bands to grace the R&B scene. They continue to perform as only they can, bringing with them the sweet, soulful memories of years past.

See The Stylistics, the leading Philly soul group produced by Thom Bell. During the early '70s, the band had 12 straight Top Ten hits, including "You Are Everything," "Betcha by Golly, Wow," "I'm Stone In Love With You," "Break Up to Make Up," and "You Make Me Feel Brand New." With their charisma, style, and harmony, the Stylistics evolved into one of the best-selling soul groups ever, as the Philadelphia-based quartet recorded a remarkable ten straight top ten hits during the early 1970s.

The Delfonics, also from Philly, dominated the 1960s and early 1970s music scene. Their most notable hits include "La-La (Means I Love You)," "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," "Break Your Promise," "I'm Sorry," and "Ready or Not Here I Come." Their hit songs were primarily written, composed and produced by lead vocalist and founding member William "Poogie" Hart, who still performs with the group today.

Also taking to the stage is The Manhattans, one of those classic R&B vocal groups who achieved incredible career longevity by adapting their style to fit changing times. Formed in the '60s as a doo-wop-influenced R&B quintet, The Manhattans reinvented themselves as sweet, smooth soul balladeers during the '70s. As any R&B enthusiast will attest, the name Gerald Alston has always been synonymous with soul, elegance, and sophistication.
