(NEWARK, NJ) -- Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced that in celebration of Earth Day, the City of Newark will host two events on consecutive days. The Cleaner Newark Citywide Cleanup will take place on Friday, April 22, beginning at the Department of Public Works building at 9:00am, and concluding with a "Grab and Go" lunch, provided by ShopRite Newark at 1:00pm.

The "Game of Extremes" tabletop exercise, hosted by the Office of Sustainability, will bring community leaders together to have a conversation around climate resiliency and extreme weather preparedness. This event will be held on Saturday, April 23 from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at the Feldman Middleton, Jr., Community Center at Weequahic Park. The center is located at 92 Thomas Carmichael Drive, in Newark. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm.

"Creating a cleaner Newark improves the quality of life for all of our residents. It is also critical to raise awareness among our present and future generations of the issues of climate change and environmental issues," Mayor Baraka said. "I am proud that our city, residents, and partners are coming together to celebrate Earth Day with important events that will help build Newark's sustainability and educate stakeholders. While we want our residents to keep Newark clean every day, I urge all residents to do their part on this special day. Help clean up Newark on Friday, the 22nd, and join the 'Game of Extremes' tabletop exercise on Saturday, the 23rd."

Individuals or volunteers from businesses, and community organizations are welcome to participate. To register for the Citywide Cleanup, contact Brenda Anderson at the Office of Recycling at [email protected]
