New Hope Arts Hosts a Day of Free Events In Honor of International Sculpture Day

(NEW HOPE, PA) -- New Hope Arts is delighted to announce a day of free events on April 27, 2024, celebrating International Sculpture Day. This exciting day of festivities is open to all community members and guests and promises a vibrant celebration of art and creativity.

You can register for the events here.

The day will commence with a Sculpture Bike Tour at 10:00am, led by Bucks County cycling enthusiast Rick James of Encore Rides. Participants will embark on an introductory tour to explore some of the captivating sculptures featured in New Hope Arts' Public Arts Program. Thirteen new sculptures have been added to the program in 2024, with six installed in April alone in anticipation of April 27’s festivities. Following the tour, attendees are encouraged to continue exploring sculptures around the borough.

Following the bike tour, from 10:30am to 12:00pm, the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury will host a Found-Objects Art Workshop. Led by local artist Karina Raude, participants of all ages will have the opportunity to create unique sculptures using objects found in nature and everyday life. All necessary supplies will be provided; however, attendees can also bring their own materials to add to their creations.

From 12:00pm to 4:00pm, visitors can experience an exciting collaboration between New Hope Arts' Public Arts Program and The College of New Jersey's Interactive Exhibit Design course. TCNJ students will unveil an augmented reality project, enhancing select sculptures with digital art experiences accessible via QR codes.

The day will also feature Walking Tours at 4:00pm, led by New Hope-Solebury residents Joanne Reska and June Nezamis. Attendees will have the chance to explore a selection of sculptures while gaining insights into New Hope's vibrant community art scene and are also welcome to the Members Only Preview from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Furthermore, the festivities will mark the opening of the highly anticipated Sculpture 2024 Juried Exhibition by George R. Anthonisen. The Exhibit will feature over 90 artworks from 58 talented artists. The exhibition will run from April 27 to June 7, 2024, with an Opening Reception from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, preceded by a Member Preview from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.  This exhibition has been generously sponsored by Joe Franlin, Andy Pedinoff and Michael Sheehy.

George R. Anthonisen's artistic career has spanned 65 years as a figurative sculptor. Well versed in history and current events, Anthonisen (b. 1936) creates visual dialogues, primarily in bronze, that investigate the human condition and people’s capacity to destroy, to create, to question, and to make noble choices. He is known for his thoughtful and sometimes haunting content and for championing the elegance and strength of the female form.
