Middletown Arts Center to hold auditions for "Legally Blonde, the Musical"

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The MAC Players at the Middletown Arts Center will hold auditions for the production of Legally Blonde the Musical on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 5:00pm-10:00pm. This fabulously fun, award-winning musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe, Nell Benjamin, book by Heather Hach and based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture, Legally Blonde.

This will be the eighth production of the Middletown Arts Center’s community theater group and will be led by Director Victoria Keiser with Musical Director Melanie Colby and Choreographer Samantha Amaral. Performances will be held July 12-21, 2024.

Callbacks will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 12:00pm-5:00pm. Dance Auditions will take place during the Callbacks.

Participants must prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided or please bring tracks for your selection. To schedule an audition time or for questions, please email [email protected]. Rehearsals will begin on or around May 20, 2024, and take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings.

Actors of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to audition. AEA members may audition for a possible Guest Appearance Contract.

All auditions and rehearsals will be held at the Middletown Arts Center, located at 36 Church Street in Middletown, NJ (next to the Middletown train station). Free parking is available onsite with additional free parking available in the train station metered lot on weekday evenings after 6:00pm and on weekends. ROLES

Elle Woods – (18-25) Mezzo-Soprano Belt (F5- F#3) The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality.

Emmett Forrest – (18-25) Tenor 20-25 (A4-A2) A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. He is charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly.

Paulette – (20s-40s) Mezzo-Soprano (A5-G3) A brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who is friends with Elle and longs to find a man for herself.

Professor Callahan – (35-50) Tenor (F#4- A2) A pompous, sleazy and manipulative law professor at Harvard who is highly successful, but completely immoral.

Warner Huntington III – (20-25) Tenor (G#4- A2) A good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle’s heart and heads off to Harvard Law.

Vivienne Kensington – (20-25) Mezzo-Soprano Belt (Ab5-A3) A smart, savvy, and uptight law student and Warner’s fiance who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Brooke Wyndam – (35– 45) Mezzo-Soprano (G5-A3) An exercise video mogul who is also a former sorority girl. She is energetic and charismatic, yet currently on trial for murder.

Serena, Margot, Pilar – (20-25) Serena, Margot, and Pilar are Elle’s best friends and sorority sisters. They provide comic relief and encouragement, and pop up in Elle’s mind as a Greek Chorus.

Enid Hoopes – (20-30) Enid is a feminist, activist, and fellow law student at Harvard. She’s outspoken and highly intelligent, often standing up for what she believes in.
