Middlesex College presents "Footloose, the Musical"

(EDISON, NJ) -- Middlesex College's Visual, Performing, and Media Arts Department presents Footloose, the Musical across two weekends (April 4-6 and April 11-13, 2024) at the Performing Arts Center in Edison. This is a stage adaption by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie based on the original screenplay by Pitchford. The musical includes music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford with additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

The production is directed by Devin Massih with choreography by Raven Dunbar-Abbot and musical direction by Angelina Francese.

Performances take place April 4, 5 ,6, 11, 12, 13 at 7:00pm and April 12 at 11:00am (Community Day Show).  Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for vets/seniors, and free for students with ID. Tickets are available for purchase online. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash only. The Performing Arts Center at Middlesex College is located at 2600 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison, New Jersey.

Footloose, the Musical is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Corp.
