Master of Merriment: a Celtic Christmas with the Chivalrous Crickets

originally published: 12/04/2023

(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- The Chivalrous Crickets presents a Celtic Christmas show on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church in West Windsor. Showtime is 7:00pm. The  band will lead the audience on a rambling, wassail-filled journey through villages of France, Ireland, England, Scotland, and America while exploring the tunes and traditions of Celtic Yuletide from the quiet first day of Winter to the raucous Twelfth Night!

Reservations are recommended as the show is expected to sell out.  Click here to add your name to the guest list.

This is a give-what-you-can event. In lieu of required tickets, suggested donation of $25 reflects a standard ticket price. If you are unable to give at this time, please come celebrate Christmas with us anyway! If the holiday spirit moves you to give more, you can support your neighborhood folk band in a bigger way by attaching any amount through the donation option here, or you can wait to give a tax-deductible donation to Crickets manager Fiona Gillespie, who is fiscally sponsored through Fractured Atlas, AT or AFTER the show.

The Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church is located at 154 S Mill Road in West Windsor, New Jersey.

The Chivalrous Crickets is a Celtic and Americana folk band creating at the intersection of traditional English, Celtic, and American folk, and early (Baroque) European art music. The band's members, who all sing, play instruments, and arrange and compose for the group, come from backgrounds of folk and classical music. Their skills and interests combine to form a unique sound centered on rich vocal harmonies, diverse timbral blends of modern and historical instruments, exuberant arrangements, and provoking and innovative programming of traditional, original, and historical music. Formed in 2018, and based between eastern PA and central NJ, the Crickets revel in playing sundry venues from history museums to schooners and canal barges, Early Music concert series to Celtic folk festivals, churches to barns, and speakeasies to theaters, ranging from Maryland to Maine and beyond. Audiences enjoy five band members, all trained vocalists, and a total of 14 instruments (ancient and modern). The Crickets offer a varied array of performance options, from festival sets to Christmas concerts to shows built completely around specific ballad traditions.
