Makin Waves Song of the Week: "Girl with No Name" by Steve Conte

By Bob Makin

originally published: 11/24/2023

Jersey Shore-raised singer-songwriter-guitarist Steve Conte soon will release his fourth solo LP, his second on Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records, the latest single of which,“Girl with No Name,” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

Jersey Shore-raised singer-songwriter-guitarist Steve Conte is noted for his work with Company of Wolves, New York Dolls, Paul Simon, Willie Nile and much more.

However, early next year, he will release his fourth full-length solo LP, “Concrete Jangle,” his second on Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records. The album’s recent single, “Girl with No Name,” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Girl with No Name” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Nov. 24 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin and MixCloud.

“Concrete Jangle” is a follow-up to 2021’s “Bronx Cheer” LP, which reunited Steve with Nile and bassist brother and Company of Wolves band mate John Conte.

Music continues to run in the Conte family. Steve and John’s mom is legendary Jersey Shore vocalist and vocal coach Rosemary Conte. And it looks like Steve’s sons will be going into the family business, having recently sung “Girl with No Name” with him live in concert.

Half of the 10-song LP was co-written with Andy Partridge of XTC, including a previous single “Fourth of July.”
