The North Jersey duo Tiny Cities will release their sophomore EP, “Beginning of the End,” Jan. 16 on Hidden Tracks Records.
The first single, “Body Cast,” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Body Cast” can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 12 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin, Mixcloud and RadioJersey.net.
"The song is about the self-destructive side of us that can sometimes crave those old habits when you finally get to a place of safety and comfort,” Melissa said.
On their most recent set of recordings, Tiny Cities crossed the Hudson River to partner up with producer/multi-instrumentalist Eric E. Sanderson at Harbor Studios in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. Sanderson played a vital role during the recording process, lending his talents on bass and keys. He even took press photos.
Percussionist Jeremy Gustin added his signature sounds to add to the crisp production, complimenting the songs with openness and emotional depth.
Tiny Cities’ Melissa Anthony and Dennis King, aka Son of Dov, find beauty in the quiet corners of everyday life. Both lean heavily into their singing and songwriting strengths and tap into shared vulnerabilities.
In January of this year, their debut EP, “The Wind Can Be So Cruel, introduced listeners to their evocative sound. The first single,“Hologram,” was featured on WFUV’s “NYC Slice” segment and quickly followed up with a 2025 spring collection of reimagined cover songs, “Under the Covers,” featuring a stunning version of Radiohead’s “Creep.”
Having spent the last year playing up and down the state from Asbury Park to local coffee shops, Tiny Cities signed with Hidden Tracks, who will be releasing “Beginning of the End” on 12-inch vinyl. The Jan. 16 offering will be celebrated with a record release party on Jan. 24 at Hidden Tracks, 520 Main St., Boonton.
“We are truly grateful for the opportunity that Hidden Tracks Records is giving us,” Melissa said.
“And sharing these songs on vinyl record is a dream,” Dennis added.
Tiny Cities also will perform Dec. 13, Small World Coffee, Princeton; Jan. 17, The Asbury hotel, Asbury Park; March 15, Edenville General Store, Warwick, N.Y., and March 21, Sacred Bean Coffee House, Flanders.
Listen to “Body Cast” on Spotify and Apple Music.
