Another yummy The Anderson Council LP, “The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon,” drops May 19 on JEM Records.
The musical confection of the first single, “Alone with You,” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Alone with You” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on May 12 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin or MixCloud.
Like the ‘60s sounds that inspired the single, its video also is an homage to the counterculture decade edited entirely in split screen.
The Anderson Council — founding singer-songwriter-guitarist Peter Horvath, bassist Simon Burke, new guitarist Michael Potenza and new drummer Scott Jones — will celebrate the release of “The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon” on May 20 at Pino’s in Highland Park with The Make Three, Hair Magic and San Tropez.
The also will be celebrating a great amount of college and independent radio play for “Alone with You.” The forthcoming album contains 12 original songs and is loaded with more radio tracks, according to label owner Marty Scott.
Peter co-wrote the LP with friends Dawn Eden Goldstein and Michael Temkin mainly throughout the pandemic via email, phone, text and Facetime.
“Not my favorite way to work, but a ton of songs came out of it, so...,” Peter said.
Peter formed the band in 1999 taking the name from blues musician Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, who also inspired the name of Pink Floyd, one of The Anderson Council’s greatest influences.
“The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon” marks the band’s third JEM album following 2016’s “Assorted Colours” and 2019 “Worlds Collide.” Those albums spawned four of the their six Coolest Songs in The World honors from Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Sirius XM:“Magical”, “Gardening Man”, “Sitting On a Cloud”, “Never Stop Being ‘67”, and “Pinkerton’s Assorted Colours.” The others are “Gardening Man” from their 2012 LP, “Looking at Stars,” and their cover of “Glow Girl” from last year’s “JEM Celebrates Pete Townsend” tribute LP.
The Anderson Council have tracks on all four JEM Celebrates albums, including the upcoming Ray Davies tribute dropping Aug. 11.
The Anderson Council also will play June 2, New Old Rock Deli, New York City; June 10, WFMU’s Monty Hall, Jersey City; July 29, Drew’s Place, Ringwood, and Aug. 18, Shillelagh Pub, West Orange.
