Fans of power trios, such as Husker Du, Nirvana and Green Day will love the local supergroup The Make Three’s debut album, “You, Me & The Make Three,” on Mint 400 Records. The 10 songs mainly were written by singer-songwriter-guitarist Jerry Lardieri while crafting a Mint 400 album for his main band, The Brixton Riot. But he had enough great tunes left over to make the gritty but gorgeous “You, Me & The Three” with The Anderson Council pals Peter Horvath on bass and vocals and the band’s former drummer Chris Ryan.
The opener “Against the Tide” sets a bittersweet buzzsaw pace, but even when things slow down with the jangly Replacementsesque power ballad “Parts Unknown,” the LP is raucous joy to behold. Other standouts include the Dinosaur Jr.-like “Under My Skin,” “Local Scene,” an ode to the music seed that spawned them, and the catchy ‘60s-inspired single “Emily Strange.”
See The Make Three Sept. 16 at John & Peter’s, New Hope, and Sept. 30 at Asbury Park Porchfest.
