Lighthouse International Film Society to screen "Deep Rising"

originally published: 01/12/2024

(SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- Prepare to embark on a mesmerizing journey into the depths of the world's oceans when Lighthouse International Film Society screens Deep Rising, a groundbreaking documentary directed by Matthieu Rytz and narrated by Jason Momoa, (Aquaman). This cinematic exploration delves into the mysteries of the most uncharted and inaccessible places on Earth, revealing an awe-inspiring connection between our oceans and the future of sustainable energy. The screening takes place Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Spring Lake Theatre. Showtime is 7:15pm.

Deep Rising takes audiences on a riveting adventure, showcasing breathtaking footage of the deep sea's most captivating creatures while shedding light on the intricate relationship between our ocean's fragile ecosystems and the sustenance of all life on our planet. The film promises to be an eye-opening experience, uncovering the profound impact of human activities on this vital environment.

This epic documentary unravels a tale of geopolitical, corporate, and scientific intrigue, exposing the inner workings of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), a secretive United Nations instrument overseeing nearly half of the Earth's surface on the ocean floor. Empowered to authorize massive metal extraction operations deemed essential for current electric battery technology, the ISA's actions come under scrutiny in Deep Rising.

As extractive conglomerates shift investments from traditional energy sources to deep-ocean mining, Deep Rising challenges viewers to question why we aren't focusing on developing abundant, sustainable resources to meet our growing energy demands. With Jason Momoa at the helm, the film poses critical inquiries and explores alternative pathways toward a more environmentally conscious future.

Admission is $10 online / $14 at the door, free for LIFSociety Members. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Spring Lake Theatre is located at 300 Madison Avenue in Spring Lake, New Jersey.
