(MADISON, NJ) -- Light Opera of New Jersey will begin their 2022-23 season with a performance of Leonard Bernstein's operetta, Candide. There will be two performances, Saturday, October 22 at 8:00pm and Sunday October 23 at 3:00pm at the Dorothy Young Center for the Performing Arts (Madison, NJ). This concert performance will feature Maestro Jason Tramm leading the 30-piece Light Opera of New Jersey Orchestra, over 60 singers in the chorus and highly acclaimed soloists drawn from the best Broadway and operatic talent.
Candide is a fast-paced comic operetta with music composed by Leonard Bernstein, based on Voltaire’s satirical novel. The story follows the exiled, but forever optimistic Candide throughout his adventures in the Old and New Worlds.
Candide blindly follows the guidance of his tutor, Dr. Pangloss, careening through a series of wild adventures and astonishing coincidences. He returns home to his beloved tutor, enlightened by a new and more realistic philosophy of life.
Tickets are $60 for adults, $25 for students college age or younger. A special adult ticket which includes Champagne and Meet-the-Artists Reception is available for $80 for the October 23rd performance. Tickets are available for purchase online.
Since its premier in 1956, Candide has achieved popularity in both opera houses and concert halls across the globe. LONJ will present the 1988 Scottish Opera version.
