originally published: 09/18/2022

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Morven Museum & Garden’s October programs kick off with a watch party of the 2020 documentary Sisters with Transistors, a celebration of the women who pioneered electronic music. This hybrid event will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 6:30pm. Laurie Spiegel, groundbreaking composer and computer programmer who worked at Bell Labs in the 1970s, is scheduled to appear for a virtual discussion following the screening. In-person tickets are $20 General Admission, $10 for Morven Members. Virtual tickets are $10 General Admission, free for Morven Members.

In-person guests may visit the museum and the Ma Bell: The Mother of Invention in New Jersey exhibition from 5:00pm to 6:15pm prior to the screening and discussion. Doors open for the in-person version of the event in the Stockton Education Center at 6:00pm. Light refreshments will be served. For virtual attendees, a Zoom webinar link will be shared via email prior to the event. A recording will be sent to those registered following the program.

On Wednesday, October 19 at 12:00pm, join Dr. Gerald and Margaret Hull for The Mysterious World of the Garden Grotto. Their virtual presentation will take attendees on a trip across the world exploring the origins of the garden grotto, the meaning of these mysterious and unique spaces, and their translation to homes and estates in the United States, ultimately providing visual and historical context for Annis Stockton’s lost grotto at Morven.

This program will be held virtual only. Tickets are $5 General Admission, free for Morven Members. The Zoom webinar link will be shared via email prior to the event. A recording will be sent to those registered following the program.

Most historic sites celebrate one notable resident. Morven Museum & Garden is unique in that it was home to many remarkable people. Built in the 1750s and home to one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Morven was home to five generations of Stocktons, then Robert Wood Johnson, Jr. before becoming New Jersey’s first Governor’s Mansion and home to five New Jersey governors, their families and staffs, witnessing nearly 300 years of history. Morven is located at 55 Stockton Street, Princeton, NJ and is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gardens are open daily until dusk.
