Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra presents "Music in Bloom" on June 7th

originally published: 05/10/2026

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) will present its Spring Concert, Music in Bloom, on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Richardson Auditorium on the Princeton University campus. The performance will feature GPYO's top ensembles in a dynamic program of orchestral works by Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and John Philip Sousa. Showtime is 3:00pm.

The concert marks the culmination of the 2025–2026 season, showcasing the work of GPYO’s young musicians following months of intensive rehearsal and artistic development.

A highlight of the program will be a featured performance by Advithi Sriram, winner of GPYO’s Annual Matteo Giammario Concerto Competition, who will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Symphonic Orchestra. A sophomore at Montgomery High School who studies with Maggie Davis, Advithi is in her first season with GPYO and has previously performed with the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra. She has been selected for CJMEA and NJMEA ensembles and is also an active volunteer, tutoring through the nonprofit Blue Moon Music.

The concerto competition, held annually, provides GPYO musicians the opportunity to perform as soloists with full orchestra. This year’s competition featured seven finalists, selected from video submissions in November and advancing to a live final round before a distinguished panel of judges: Maestro Constantine Kitsopoulos, Sandra Pucciatti, and Christopher Jones. Finalists performed repertoire spanning Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Carl Stamitz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Cécile Chaminade, and Édouard Lalo.

A second winner, Andrew T. Li, will perform Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso, Op. 62 with full orchestra during GPYO’s Fall 2026 season.

“The depth of preparation and musical maturity across all seven finalists was remarkable,” said Joseph Pucciatti, GPYO Artistic Director. “Each of these students demonstrated not only technical command, but a genuine understanding of musical voice and character. Competitions like this are about more than selecting winners—they are about creating opportunities for young artists to engage with major repertoire at a high level.”

In addition to the concerto feature, the concert will include performances by multiple GPYO ensembles, offering audiences a wide-ranging program that reflects both the breadth of the orchestra’s training programs and the depth of its musical achievement.

Tickets are now available for purchase online. Richardson Auditorium is located at 68 Nassau Street in Princeton, New Jersey.  Senior and student discounts are available. Music teachers are eligible for complimentary tickets. GPYO also participates in NJ’s Families First Discovery Pass Program. For more information on either of these initiatives, please contact [email protected].

Founded in 1960, the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) provides excellent training and performance opportunities for students seeking challenging musical ensemble experiences, while cultivating a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Students come from across Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, and surrounding counties. Tuition assistance ensures access for all qualified young musicians.
