(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Erika Sánchez, whose Crying in the Bathroom: A Memoir is a Goodreads Choice Award nominee, will bring her candor and earthy humor to the Ocean County Library’s Virtual Author Talk series on Tuesday, July 25. The event begins at 4:00pm.
Crying in the Bathroom, available at the Ocean County Library, won raves from Time, Booklist, LitHub, the Chicago Tribune and Shelf Awareness in 2022. In wry, poignant, and honest terms, Sánchez illustrates the conditions that transformed the self-described misfit daughter of Mexican immigrants into a respected novelist, essayist, and poet.
Readers are drawn into the author’s world through experience-fueled observations on themes such as feminism, relationships, intimacy, and depression with acerbic wit and remarkable vulnerability.

Sánchez also authored the best-selling YA novel I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, now becoming a film by America Ferreira, and a poetry collection, Lessons on Expulsion.
In less than a decade, she won a Fulbright scholarship, Poetry Foundation, Princeton Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships, the Chicago Public Library’s 21 st Century Award, and a faculty chair at DePaul University in her native Chicago.
