Center Players To Hold Auditions For "Crimes Of The Heart"

(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- Center Players will hold auditions for an upcoming production of “Crimes of the Heart” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St, in downtown Freehold, NJ. The play was written by Beth Henley and will be directed by Anthony Marinelli. Auditions will beheld on Saturday, February 5th from 12:00pm-2:00pm, and Wednesday, February 9th from 7:00pm-9:00pm.  Callbacks will take place on Saturday, February 12th from 12:00pm-2:00pm and Wednesday, February 16th from 7:00pm-9:00pm.

This Pulitzer-Prize winning tragicomedy centers on the three Magrath sisters (Lenny, Meg, and Babe) who are reunited in Hazelhurst, MS (circa 1974) as they await the news of their ailing grandfather while also dealing with the attempted murder committed by Babe against her brutish husband.  Over the next two days, the family’s skeletons will be revealed, deep-seated resentments return to the surface, and tears will mix with laughter as the sisters work their way through the pains of life and love in the best way they can: with each other.

Performances will take place May 6-22nd, 2022 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm.

AUDITION MATERIAL:  Sides from the play will be provided. PLEASE BRING: Resume and headshot if available. These are NON-UNION, NO PAY roles.

Proof of COVID vaccination is needed. Please note all COVID protocols will be followed; masks will be required when not on stage, and all cast, crew and patrons must be vaccinated.

LIST OF CHARACTERS:

CHICK BOYLE: The Magrath’s passive-aggressive first cousin, 29 years old. She wears flashy clothes and bright lipstick, and is deeply concerned with her reputation in town and keeping up appearances. She sees herself as superior to her cousins and is resentful of the attention they receive.

DOC PORTER: Meg’s old flame, 30 years old, who still carries a torch for her despite being married with two children. Nicknamed Doc for his one-time medical aspirations, a tragic accident that occurred five years earlier during Hurricane Camille has left him with a slight limp, which adds rather than detracts from his quiet seductive quality.

BARNETTE LLOYD: The young, ambitious lawyer hired to defend Babe in her murder case, this 26 year old is fanatically determined to not only clear Babe’s name, but also see to it that her husband, who she shot in the stomach, is himself put behind bars for his shady political dealings. The attraction Barnette feels for Babe is another source of motivation.

**Please note that the roles of the three Magrath sisters have been pre-cast**
