Book Talk: "The Celebrated Elizabeth Smith: Crafting Genius and Transatlantic Fame in the Romantic Era"

originally published: 01/03/2023

(WAYNE, NJ) -- The public is invited to Dey Mansion Washington's Headquarters on Saturday, January 8th at 1:00pm as author Dr. Lucia McMahon shares a presentation on her book: "The Celebrated Elizabeth Smith: Crafting Genius and Transatlantic Fame in the Romantic Era."

Elizabeth Smith was a learned British woman born in the momentous year of 1776. She gained transnational fame posthumously for her extensive intellectual accomplishments. Through re-telling Smith’s fascinating life story, this book reveals a larger narrative about women’s efforts to enact fulfilling lives, and the cultural reactions such aspirations inspired in the early 19th century.

Light Refreshments will be served. Book purchases and signing will be available. Space is limited, reservations are suggested. Please call 973 706-6640 to reserve your space.

Under the direction of the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners, the staff at Dey Mansion (located at 199 Totowa Road in Wayne, New Jersey) are dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the Dey Family and the important role that their home played as General George Washington’s Headquarters during the summer and fall of 1780. Through tours, lectures, and special events the Dey Mansion promotes the exploration of life in Colonial America, the events and people of the American Revolution, and the need and importance of historic preservation.

The Dey Mansion is the property of the County of Passaic and operated by the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs.
