Avenel PAC presents comedian John Poveromo

originally published: 12/30/2025

(AVENEL, NJ) -- John Poveromo is a nationally touring comedian, writer, cartoonist, and the host of Dystopia Tonight. His unique blend of wit and insight has earned him recognition across multiple platforms and stages. He will perform at Avenel Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 8:00pm. Singer-Songwriter Emily Grove will open the night.

John has appeared in various shows on FXX, SiriusXM, NBC, FOX and CNN. He's been featured in the NY Times, The LA Times, TMZ, The Hollywood Reporter, and has written for Newsweek. Additionally, he is the creator and star of "Duppet." The short film, which debuted on Amazon Prime, centers on a snarky puppet that becomes the physical manifestation of his depression.

John also leverages his expertise with advocates and researchers exploring the connection between comedy and social impact. As a result, in 2023 John was asked to join a Doctoral dialogues discussion with students and professors in the St. John's University Multi-Sector Communications PHD Program. Using the platform he's built with Dystopia Tonight, John hosts an annual 24-hour live stream event, with past guests, to raise money for the National MS Society in NY.

As a comedian, writer, and host, John is highly sought after for his point of view on social issues, pop culture, comedy and politics. His razor-sharp wit, keen eye for BS, frenetic delivery, and a glorious head of hair has lead to a generationally wide audience, making him a favorite at clubs nationwide!

Tickets are 39.50 plus applicable fees and available for purchase online. Avenel Performing Arts Center is located at 150 Avenel Street in Avenel New Jersey.

"Had a great time with John. Smart, funny, and easy to talk to. We went about an hour over because I was enjoying myself too much to pull the plug." — Paul Reiser ( Stranger Things, Mad About You)

"I had a great time talking with John Poveromo. Funny, insightful, and would make a good raiding buddy in our imminent post-apocalyptic hellscape." — Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket)

"Gen X grew up knowing the world was broken, so we learned to laugh at it instead of branding ourselves around it. He says he's a millennial but John has that same instinct and it comes through in his material." — Melissa Auf Der Maur (Hole, Smashing Pumpkins)
