AHArts presents "Faces & Façades"

originally published: 11/08/2022

(ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) --- The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council (AHArts) presents “Faces & Façades” in their main gallery from November 19 to December 24, 2022. For this exhibit, they asked artists to submit work on the theme of "Faces & Façades," a title that conjures up ideas of appearance, disguise, masks, veneers, and covers. The jurors looked for creative interpretations of these ideas and selected work that not only reflected the theme but made them reconsider the meaning.

Forty pieces of artwork were selected from the following artists: Jackie St. Angel, Lisa Bagwell, Michelle Renee Bernard, Michele Bisaccia, Joan Bruno, Kimberly Callas, Bruce Cohn, John Daly, Elly Momi Faden, Ellen Noone Flocco, Heidi Hooper, Jacob Houghton, Ken Houghton, Richard Huff, James M. Kaplun, Shoshana Kertesz, Jill Kerwick, Stan Kramer, Hanniel Levenson, Dorcey Lukas, Carol Magnatta, Ellen Martin, Jose Trejo Maya, Randy Mayer, Patricia Meko, Denise Mumm, Denyse Murphy, Christy E. O’Connor, Gloria Pacis, Art Paxton, Zeet Peabody, Charles Rutledge, Flo Schell, Dug Smith, Morgan Spicer, Darren R. Sussman, David Udovic, and Lori Weisenfeld.

This year's jurors include photographer, Adam Sanders, and painter, Barbara Freidman.

Adam Sanders is a photographer who created the powerful exhibit “Dear Neighbor” in October 2020 for the AHAC. This project gave insight into the lives of people in his community during the height of the pandemic. In his professional life, Sanders is a master printmaker and retouching artist for fine art and fashion photographers. He has made prints that are in the permanent collections of MOMA, the Louvre and other museums and his commercial work can be seen in magazines and on billboards everywhere.

Barbara A. Friedman is a visual artist whose career has encompassed painting, visual communications, and teaching on the university level. She received her BFA from Parsons School of Design, her MFA from William Paterson University with Honors, where her focus was digital image manipulation and painting. Currently she is a Part Time Associate Teaching Professor at Parsons School of Design where she was honored with the Henry Wolf Award for Teaching Excellence. She has also taught at Pratt Manhattan, William Paterson University, and Raritan Valley Community College. Her work has been exhibited in several venues in the U.S. and in France and is held in several private collections. Articles regarding her work have been included in La Dépeche (France), The Fat Canary Journal, Step-by-Step Magazine, and Adobe’s Quick Start Guides.
