A Look At "Biloxi Blues" at Algonquin Arts

(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre is presenting Biloxi Blues from January 22-30, 2022. This is the second in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Neil Simon's trilogy which began with Brighton Beach Memoirs and concluded with Broadway Bound. In this segment, Eugene Jerome heads to boot camp where he learns about life and love with a capital 'L' along with some harsher lessons.

When we last met Eugene Jerome, he was coping with adolescence in 1930's Brooklyn. Here, he is a young army recruit during WW II, going through basic training and learning about Life and Love with a capital 'L' along with some harsher lessons, while stationed at boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1943.

The cast includes Jack Sweeney (Eugene Morris Jerome), James Beecroft (Roy Selridge), Colin Ward (Joseph Wykowski), Joseph Bryant (Don Carney),  Donovan Lee (Arnold Epstein), Brian Pollock (Sgt. Merwin J. Toomey), Billy Reinhard (Hennessy), Kristin Case Parker (Rowena), and Analisa Piemonte (Daisy Hannigan).

Biloxi Blues had its world premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles, California, running from December 8, 1984 to February 2, 1985. It opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on March 28, 1985 and closed on June 28, 1986.

Remaining performances will take place on Friday, January 28 at 8:00pm; Saturday, January 29 at 2:00pm & 8:00pm; and Sunday, January 30 at 3:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online.

Algonquin's Broadway series will continue with Amadeus (February 26-March 6) and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (April 1-10) before closing with the Tony-winning musical Into The Woods (May 7-22). Subscription packages that include four or five shows are also available.
