Jersey Arts Podcast: Jonathan Larson's "Tick Tick... BOOM!" Rocks George Street Playhouse
 

Musical theater nerds can rejoice, George Street Playhouse is bringing back "Tick Tick... BOOM!," the posthumously produced musical by Jonathan Larson, best known for having written the widely known rock opera, "Rent."

(FAIR LAWN, NJ) -- Old Library Theatre (OLT) is presenting the musical, A New Brain, over two weekends from April 12- 21, 2024. Created by Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist William Finn and playwright James Lapine, this is an unexpectedly funny show that gives a glimpse into the inner world of Gordon Michael Schwinn (played by Patrick Dwyer), a frustrated composer for a children's television show. Photographer John Posada was on hand to take photos.

 



Scott Ehrenpreis Shares His Inspiring Mental Health Journey in solo show, "Clowns Like Me"
 

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Mental illness is no laughing matter, but in the new solo show Clowns Like Me, audience members are encouraged to laugh, cry and enjoy the ride into the unknown. Clowns Like Me will have its New York Off-Broadway Premiere at the DR2 Theatre this summer. The witty, timely, and inspiring story is based on Sarasota actor and storyteller Scott Ehrenpreis’ true life struggles with mental illness and its stigmas. The play was written by Jason Cannon, who also directs. Previews begin on June 21, for a limited engagement through August 18, 2024. Opening night is slated for Sunday, June 30 at 6:30pm.

Middle School Students from the Elisabeth Morrow School performed "High School Musical, Jr." at bergenPAC
 

(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Middle school students from The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) performed High School Musical Jr. at Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) in March, giving them the opportunity to experience performing at a real theater.

Moore's Lounge Players Lead Spirited Jazz Jam Concert at SOPAC's Jammin' in the Loft
 

The Moore's Lounge Players, one of New Jersey's longest-running jazz jam bands, will head up an unforgettable jazz performance and the ultimate jam session as part of the "Jammin' in the Loft" series at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) on Wednesday, April 24, at 7 PM. Curated by Gregory Burrus Productions, "Jammin' in the Loft" is a series that takes the local music scene by force with an energetic experience of seeing talented local musicians perform up close and personal, surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of friends, fans, and fellow musicians.

 



RVCC Music Professor Receives Grant for Concert Series
 

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- Dr. Anna Keiserman, a pianist and Assistant Professor of Music at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, has received a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Local Arts Program Grant from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission for the MOZAIKA concert series.

 



Prudential Center presents Matchbox 20 and Andy Grammer as part of North to Shore Festival
 

(NEWARK, NJ) -- The Prudential Center presents Matchbox 20 and Andy Grammer on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 8:00pm. The concert is part of the North to Shore festival, which takes place in Asbury Park (June 10-16), Atlantic City (June 17-23), and Newark (June 23-30).

 



Joe Grushecky to Release New Album and an Anthology
 

Pittsburgh rock 'n' roll legend Joe Grushecky announced two new albums through Omnivore Recordings; a new studio album Can't Outrun A Memory out on July 12, and Houserocker: A Joe Grushecky Anthology out on May 24. Can't Outrun A Memory is the first release of new material in 7 years from Joe and The Houserockers, featuring 13 Grushecky originals coupled with a blistering cover of The Animals classic "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place."

Michael Arnone's 32nd Annual Crawfish Fest Set to Return To Sussex County in 2025
 

(AUGUSTA, NJ) -- Michael Arnone's 32nd Annual Crawfish Fest is set to return to Sussex County Fairgrounds May 30 to June 1, 2025, reigniting the unique bond of great Louisiana and New Orleans music and food that the festival is known for.
