There's a Bee at George Street Playhouse
 

Yes, there's a bee on the loose at New Brunswick's George Street Playhouse. Not to worry; it won't sting you. But it will get you laughing out loud, a lot. The wonderfully funny musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, is a show guaranteed to give you a ton of laughs. It is a well produced production that features a fabulous cast and even a few extras from the audience.

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Dol Productions and Pivot Productions have announced the world premiere production of Alexander Kaletski's Darkness of Light: Confessions of a Russian Traveler, directed by Michael Mailer (The Minute You Wake Up Dead with Morgan Freeman, Heart of Champions with Michael Shannon, Blind with Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore) in his legit debut. Darkness of Light will play a limited engagement at The 36th Street Theatre (312 W 36th St. 4th floor, New York, NY). Performances begin Thursday, March 30, and continue through Sunday, April 16.

New Jersey Theatre Alliance Appoints Career Accelerator Program Fellows
 

New Jersey Theatre Alliance ("the Alliance"), has announced their inaugural cohort of Career Accelerator Fellows: Amoria Burks, Jamie Goodwin, and Dez Wesley. The three Fellows will participate in a 6-month paid experience comprising placements with professional theatres and the Alliance itself to learn about theatre management in real-world contexts.

This past September, Jon Caspi & The First Gun released a new version of their cult favorite Raise 'Em High! which features NYC rock icon Jesse Malin on lead vocals and the legendary Dez Cadena (ex-Black Flag/Misfits) on guitar. The song spurred a brewery to put out a beer named after it, is at the center of a large "2pm Toast" Facebook group with well over a thousand members, and received airplay across the country.

Film Students from Camden's Idea Center for the Arts Nominated for 2023 African American Women in Cinema Festival
 

(CAMDEN, NJ) -- Several students from the IDEA Center for the Arts Multimedia program in Camden had films selected in this year's African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) Film Festival (March 23-25, 2023). AAWIC is an organization which drives the recognition of women of color in the film industry and provides arts and cultural educational programs, in addition to providing an amazing annual platform for women around the world to showcase their work. This year, AAWIC President Terra Renee connected with IDEA about a powerful partnership that ultimately led to the "Next Generation Filmmakers" segment of this year's awards.

West Windsor Arts Presents Member Show: Yesterday Today Tomorrow
 

(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- Life revolves around change, the passage of time, and hope. Change is a constant that occurs everywhere and has so throughout time. Perhaps most importantly, time and change result in something new, different, and beautiful, and often with hope for the future. For this exhibition, West Windsor Arts invited their member artists to explore and express the idea of change and the passage of time as they relate to personal experiences or observations in the springtime art exhibition, Yesterday Today Tomorrow. The art is on view at West Windsor Arts during operating hours or by appointment from March 28 to June 3, 2023. The juror was Katie Truk, a NJ-based artist and teaching artist. Awards for Best in Show, Best Use of Medium and Exhibition Committee Choice will be announced at the opening.

Ocean County Library Toms River Branch Hosts Oil Painting Instruction for Teens
 

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Young adults can sharpen their art skills, or develop new ones, during "LBI Lighthouse Painting for Teens" at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch on Tuesday, April 18. Ocean County-based artist Liz Paseler will demonstrate her techniques of applying oil paints to canvas and will offer step-by-step instructions as participants create their own striking renditions of the Long Beach Island Lighthouse. All materials will be provided. The event begins at 3:00pm.

 



Exhibition at Grounds for Sculpture Pays Tribute To Spiral Q Organization
 

(HAMILTON, NJ) -- Grounds For Sculpture will present the site-specific exhibition Spiral Q: The Parade this spring to highlight Spiral Q, a community-based organization now in its 27th year, and its rich history of a take-to-the streets (real and virtual) approach to creating an unflinching and joyous commitment to justice and equality. They are honored to present their first retrospective exhibition showcasing 27 years of community partnerships, creativity, and advocacy. A key part of their tenure at GFS includes a three week residency with Artworks Trenton, building to a public parade at Grounds For Sculpture.

Mill Demonstrations to Resume at Historic Walnford
 

(UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ) -- The Monmouth County Park System has announced that the 19th century gristmill at Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold, will resume its demonstrations starting Saturday, April 1. Held at 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm & 3:30pm, these demonstrations show how corn was ground into meal. Lasting approximately 15 minutes each, demonstrations are free and offered on weekends through November.
