(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- On Thursday, June 13, 2024, there will be a music and poetry event at 503 Social Club in Hoboken to benefit New Jersey Peace Action, a New Jersey chapter of the largest grassroots peace-advocacy group in the United States. The event runs from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.
The event will feature the musicians Elena Skye and Boo Reiners (from Demolition String Band), Dave Calamoneri, Jaime Della Fave, and Adam Bernstein; the poets, Danny Shot, Joel Lewis, and Eliot Katz, who will also serve as the event’s emcee; and several speakers from the board of NJ Peace Action.
Peace Action, which was formerly SANE/FREEZE, has been in existence for more than 60 years and is committed to creating a world free of nuclear weapons and to reducing the exorbitant U.S. military budget to leave more funding for social and environmental needs. During the recent war in Gaza, NJ Peace Action has helped to organize rallies across the state to call for a long-term ceasefire and a de-escalation of the violence in Israel and Gaza. Peace Action has also criticized the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Many people will remember SANE/FREEZE as the organizer of large no-nukes concerts in the 1980s, and of the largest anti-nuke demonstration in U.S. history, with over one million people rallying in NYC’s Central Park in June of 1982.
The June 13, 2024 event runs from 7:00pm to 9:30pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm. Admission to the event is $20, with all monies going to NJ Peace Action. Because the 503 Social Club has limited seating, advance tickets are recommended and they are available for purchase online. The 503 Social Club is located at 503 3rd Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.
