Each student was permitted to submit up to three pieces of artwork for consideration. The guest juror for this year’s exhibition is Jim Osman, a visual artist and Professor Emeritus of the Parsons School of Design. Osman will evaluate all the entries, make the final selections for the exhibition, and determine the “best in show” award winners.
Jim Osman was born in New York City where he received his BA and MFA from Queens College. His creative work comes out of the figure and personal space. Using the forms of architecture and furniture, Osman expresses how people fit into the world. Doors, chairs, porches, and the like are employed not to convey the figure, but rather its presence.
Osman has had solo exhibitions at McKenzie Fine Art, Robichon Gallery, Lesley Heller Workspace, Long Island University, and Dartmouth College. His work has been included in group shows at the Brooklyn Museum, Equity Gallery, and University of Texas at San Antonio. Osman has received grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council and Parsons School of Design, as well as an NYFA Artist Fellowship in Craft/Sculpture. He became a member of the National Academy in 2019 and he’s currently the President of American Abstract Artists. Osman taught courses in three-dimensional design and sculpture at Parsons School of Design for 22 years. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
