While versatility for any musician is impressive, what's remarkable about Shimabukuro's transcendent skills is how he explores his seemingly limitless vocabulary – whether it's jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk or even classical – on perhaps the unlikeliest of instruments: the 'ukulele.

Friday, October 6, 2023 - New Jersey Festival Orchestra to open season with "Two Mighty Fifths". (WESTFIELD, NJ) -- The four most iconic notes in classical music – Beethoven's Symphony No.5 – kick off New Jersey Festival Orchestra's exciting new program for the 2023-2024 season. The concert, which takes place Friday, October 6th at St Helen's Church in Westfield, juxtaposes Beethoven's relentless, triumphant and most famous orchestral work with a balm to soothe the spirits, Vaughan Williams' contemplative 5th Symphony. Showtime is 7:00pm.

Sunday, October 8, 2023 - Portuguese Fado Star Carminho to Perform at SOPAC. (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) welcomes Carminho, the renowned Fado popular songstress from Portugal. Carminho is set to perform songs from her latest studio release, "Portuguesa," on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 7:00pm.

Wednesday, October 4, 2023 - The Newton Theatre presents Roger McGuinn on October 4th. (NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Roger McGuinn on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 8:00pm. Jim McGuinn, later known as Roger, was already a veteran of the New York and Los Angeles music scenes when he co-founded the group that would become the Byrds with Gene Clark and David Crosby in 1964. Prior to forming the Byrds, Roger toured and performed with the Limeliters, Chad Mitchell Trio and Bobby Darin as a guitarist and banjo player. He was also the musical director on Judy Collins #3.

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Asbury Park Music Foundation is hosting a fundraising show at The Break on the boardwalk in Asbury Park on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 7:30pm with Whiskey Thursday! Featuring APMF's Board President, Dan Weeden, Whiskey Thursday is a band that got its start at Lakehouse Music Academy in Asbury Park.

Friday, October 6, 2023 - Don Giovanni Records to Hold 20th Anniversary Expo in Philly. (PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- Don Giovanni Records will hold a 20th Anniversary Expo, October 6-7 at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, PA. The expo consists of two concerts and a record/book/art fair and includes the first performance from Tenement since 2017 along with a reunion from Hunchback and rare performances by Roadside Graves and Sammus.

Friday, October 6, 2023 - Jeiris Cook to Celebrate Record Release at The Stanhope House. (STANHOPE, NJ) -- Former mattress salesman turned full-time musician, Jeiris Cook will celebrate the release of his debut album, "Patchwork," at The Stanhope House on Friday, October 6, 2023. The album will be released at the end of September. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, October 7, 2023 - PNC Bank Arts Center presents Zac Brown Band. (HOLMDEL, NJ) -- Multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning Zac Brown Band announced their upcoming 2023 “From the FireTour.” The new set of dates, produced by Live Nation, arrives on the heels of 2022’s “Out in the Middle Tour” and the release of “The Comeback (Deluxe)” album, which features re-recorded tracks with some of music’s biggest stars, including Blake Shelton, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Cody Johnson, Marcus King, Jamey Johnson, and Ingrid Andress. Locally, the band comes to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on Saturday, October 7, 2023 with special guests Tenille Townes and King Calaway.

Saturday, October 7, 2023 - Coco Montoya to Perform at Newton Theatre. Sunday, October 8, 2023 - Bill Mays Trio to Perform Tunes from Newest Album at Jersey Jazz LIVE! Concert in Madison. (MADISON, NJ) -- Pianist Bill Mays has recorded 40 albums as a leader, but his newest, Autumn Serenade, released in May on the Sunnyside label, may be his favorite. And, it reunited him with the other two members of a trio that played with baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan in the 1980s – bassist Dean Johnson and drummer Ron Vincent.

Sunday, October 8, 2023 - Hungarian Advisory Ministry presents The Fight for Freedom Concert at NBPAC. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- On October 8, 2023, the Hungarian Advisory Ministry presents The Fight for Freedom Concert at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC). With this concert, we remember the 67th anniversary of the Hungarian 1956 freedom fight and revolution where the Hungarian people fought for their freedom. The concert begins at 4:00pm.
