A scene from Hairspray

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The ShowRoom Cinemas has announced a series of collaborative events with local businesses to present special screenings that celebrate the rich diversity and unique culture of the local community. These events, which take place June 9-16, 2024, highlight their commitment to fostering connections and providing unique cinematic experiences.

On June 11th at 7:30pm, The ShowRoom, in collaboration with Larry Cadillac Salon (725 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park), will present a special screening of John Waters' cult classic, Hairspray. Known for its vibrant portrayal of individuality and self-expression, Hairspray is the perfect match for Larry Cadillac Salon, whose mantra is "Hair has no Gender." This partnership underscores the film's themes of breaking societal norms and celebrating personal identity, making for an evening that champions both diversity and creativity.

In addition to this, The ShowRoom is teaming up with Luxe & Shadows Boutique (658 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park) to pay tribute to legendary director Roger Corman, who passed last month at the age of 98. This mini retrospective includes screenings of two of the pioneer filmmaker's early hits: The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) on June 9th at 7:30pm and A Bucket of Blood (1959) on June 16th at 7:30pm. Adding a touch of horror and humor, these screenings will be hosted by Luxe & Dagger's owner, Lou Avilleira (A.K.A Father Evil, "the sinister minister"), offering a unique and thrilling way to celebrate Father's Day.

The Little Shop of Horrors is a dark comedy-horror film that follows the misadventures of a hapless florist's assistant who cultivates a plant that feeds on human blood. Combining humor and horror, it has become a cult classic for its quirky characters and the memorable man-eating plant, Audrey Jr.

A Bucket of Blood is a satirical horror-comedy centers on a clumsy busboy who accidentally kills a cat and covers it in clay, passing it off as a sculpture. As he gains fame in the bohemian art world, he resorts to murder to maintain his newfound status, leading to a darkly comedic critique of artistic pretensions.
