Teaneck International Film Festival – Partner in Pride Month

originally published: 05/16/2023

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The Teaneck International Film Festival, in partnership with the Puffin Foundation, Ltd., is presenting two films during Teaneck’s celebration of Pride Month. Check out Teaneckpride.com for the entire June calendar of events and programs that pay tribute to the LGBTQ+ community and mark the dates of the TIFF Pride screenings at the Puffin Cultural Forum, 20 Puffin Way: To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar on Friday, June 23 at 7:30pm and – outside, under the stars – for Of an Age on Friday, June 30 at 9:00pm.

To Wong Foo. . . is a 1995 American road comedy film starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo as three New York City drag queens who take a road trip carrying an autographed photo of Julie Newmar, who appears in the film as herself.  Rated PG-13, the film – one of the first in the country to present drag queens as sympathetic and heart-warming heroes, has become a cult classic.  Following the screening, Jeremy Lentz, Executive Director of the TIFF, will moderate a talkback with David Drumgold, who played Cappuccino Commotion in the film.

Of An Age, rated R (an adult must accompany anyone under 17 years of age), is a coming-of-age LGBTQ+ narrative feature described in the LA Times (Katie Walsh) as “impeccably written and beautifully performed by (Elias) Anton and (Thom) Green. . . a profoundly moving film about the beauty and the horror of what it means to be seen for the first time, to love for the first time, and how the past and future are constantly informing each other.”

There is a $10 per person suggested donation for each film, and, since space is limited, you must make a reservation to confirm your seat, via email, at tix@puffinfoundation.org, or by calling 201.836.3499.
