(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Join OpenRoad Poetry as award-winning poet, Megha Sood continues her book tour for My Body Lives Like a Threat on April 28, 2022 at 7:00pm via ZOOM. This virtual event is part of National Poetry Month. Admission is free and open to the public. The event will have featured readings from authors, Dr. Anita Nahal, Candice Daquin, Rescue Poetix (TM), and Dr Kim McMillon.

Megha Sood is an Award-winning Asian American Poet, Editor, and Literary Activist from New Jersey, USA. Recipient of 2021 Poet Fellowship from MVICW ( Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creating Writing) and National Level Winner for the 2020 Poetry Matters Project. Poetry Editor Literary Journals Mookychick (UK), Life and Legends (USA), and Literary Partner with "Life in Quarantine", Stanford University. Dr. Anita Nahal is an Indian American poet, flash fictionist, children’s writer, and professor. She has three books of poetry, one of flash fiction, four for children, and four edited anthologies to her credit. Her third poetry book, What’s wrong with us Kali women? (Kelsay, 2021) is compulsory reading at Utrecht University and was nominated by Cyril Dabydeen, Guyanese-Indian-Canadian poet/novelist as the best poetry book for 2021 for British, Ars Notoria. Anita teaches at the University of the District of Columbia, Washington DC. She is the daughter of Sahitya Akademi award-winning Indian novelist, Chaman Nahal, and educationist, Sudarshna Nahal.
Candice Louisa Daquin is a Sephardic French/ Egyptian immigrant working as a Psychotherapist and Writer/Editor in America. She's co-edited two award-winning anthologies; SMITTEN (lesbian poetry) and The Kali Project ( Indian women's poetry, coedited with Megha Sood). Daquin is Senior Editor at Indie Blu(e) Publishing, Poetry Editor at The Pine Cone Review, Editorial Partner for Blackbird Press, and Writer in Residence with Borderless Journal. She is widely published and active with many literary groups. Daquin's next collection, Tainted by the Same Counterfeit, is out in September (Finishing Line Press).
Susan Justiniano | RescuePoetix, first Puerto Rican woman Poet Laureate of Jersey City, NJ, is a self-taught bilingual poet. Her passion for words started at age 9 with a dictionary, notebook, and the latest paperback she could get her hands on. In 2006 RescuePoetix(TM) emerged as a professional artist entrepreneur. As a published and performing poet, she has recorded poems to music, in English and Spanish, is deeply immersed in the Arts across communities throughout NJ, NY, CT, PA and MD and is developing a body of work that focuses on the rich linguistic diversity of poetry. Dr. Kim McMillon is a producer, playwright, and contributor to the anthology Some Other Blues: New Perspectives on Amiri Baraka (Ohio University Press, 2021). McMillon is the editor of Willow Books’ anthology Black Fire—This Time published on March 15, 2022. She is also the host of Berkeley Community Media’s Bay Area Artbeat. McMillon produced the Dillard University-Harvard Hutchins Center Black Arts Movement 2016 Conference in New Orleans, and with UC Merced’s Center for the Humanities, ASUCM, and the Office of Student Life, Ms. McMillon co-produced the 2014 UC Merced Black Arts Movement Conference, Fifty Years On.
