Ocean County Library Toms River Branch to Present Lawyer-Author-Podcaster Kate Kelly

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- In honor of Women’s History Month, the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch is pleased to present feminist, activist, human rights attorney and podcaster Kate Kelly on Saturday, March 4. Kate will discuss her book Ordinary Equality: The Fearless Women and Queer People Who Shaped the U.S. Constitution and the Equal Rights Amendment. The event begins at 2:00pm.

Ordinary Equality highlights 12 women and people of marginalized genders who influenced the formation of the United States Constitution, advanced the struggle for women’s suffrage, and aided the development of the Equal Rights Amendment. The book sheds light on effects that law, politics and activism have had in the pursuit of Constitutional equality.

Along with profiles of icons such as Abigail Adams and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, readers discover lesser-known, but no less significant, individuals including Belinda Sutton, an enslaved woman who won her own freedom, and pioneer trans activist Anna Pauline “Pauli” Murray, all told in Kelly’s flip, hip, and down-to-earth style.

Ordinary Equality is available in hardcover and eBook editions at the Ocean County Library.
