Novado Gallery presents "Black'Ity Black"

originally published: 03/09/2023

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Novado Gallery presents "Black'Ity Black" from March 17 through April 18, 2023.  The exhibition is curated by Jerome China.

In 2022, Anne Novado extended an invitation to Jersey City based sculptor Jerome China to curate an exhibition for 2023 at Novado Gallery.  Given an open slate to create a show of personal and contemporary cultural importance, China has created, 'Black'ity Black'; featuring paintings and mixed media works by 10 artists in various stages of their career, from emerging to established.

Curatorial Statement: " This curatorial project, 'Black'ity Black', presents a straightforward compendium of the work of several of my favorite abstract artists.  Male and female, emerging, mid-career, and established artists from throughout the country are represented in this exhibition.

"The stark absence of works created by unrepresented artists in galleries and museums is not an indication that these artists haven't been steadily producing serious art over the years.  In an art world that has been dominated by White male artists, these artists embody the current uprising that is occurring in today's art world.

"The purpose of this exhibition is to introduce this outstanding group of artists to a new and, hopefully, appreciative audience who will regard and view these works for what they are, excellent art created by outstanding artists." - Jerome China
