MKA Educator and Counselor to Debut New Book at the 2023 Passaic County Book Festival

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Melanie Bieber, Primary School Counselor and Tri-Campus Counselor Coordinator at Montclair Kimberley Academy, will be debuting her new book Aaron Daniel Henry Davis: Just Another Day at School at the Passaic County Book Festival on Saturday, June 10th at 1:30pm. Melanie will be doing a special reading in the Story Time Tent starting at 1:30pm.

Aaron Daniel Henry Davis: Just Another Day at School highlights the realities and struggles of school-aged children with ADHD (and similar deficits) and the endless potential that each of those children possess. Melanie co-authored the book with Ralph Pacifico, long-time MKA Primary School Physical Education teacher and varsity baseball coach. Both share a passion for helping children and have joined forces to celebrate those students whose brains work a little differently than most.

“ADHD makes it very challenging for a child to manage thoughts and actions, pay attention, control impulsive behavior, follow directions, and sit still,” said Melanie Bieber, Primary School Counselor and Tri-Campus Counselor Coordinator, M. Phil. Ed, LPC. “By making small changes in the classroom, maintaining open lines of communication and working closely with external professionals, parents and other teachers, we can effectively support a child with an ADHD diagnosis. To that end, we wanted to take our experiences and give them life through a book that many can relate to.”

Melanie Bieber, M. Phil. Ed, LPC spends her days counseling students with ADHD. The Aarons of the world are Melanie's favorite type of child to work with. After graduating from MKA in 2003, Melanie earned her B.A. in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Maryland and completed her graduate work in Human Development and Psychology and Counseling and Mental Health Services at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. Melanie works as a primary school counselor in New Jersey and runs Level Up Counseling & Consulting, LLC, a private mental health practice. She and her husband, Evan, love to share the world of children’s literature with their two children, Zachary and Zoey.

Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA) is a school of thought that turns inquiry into insight. We intentionally foster balance in students’ lives so they can develop their infinite potential in and out of the classroom. Embracing a contagious go-for-it attitude, students confidently try anything on their distinct educational adventures, guided by faculty who love to learn and live to teach. As diverse as it is united, our community is strengthened by a commitment to good character, and together we celebrate each student’s success, individually defined. MKA is located in Montclair, New Jersey.
