Mignolo Dance presents Virtual Performance of "Visitor Parking" on January 30th

originally published: 01/18/2022

(METUCHEN, NJ) -- If you missed seeing the live performances of Visitor Parking by Mignolo Dance, you can see a virtual performance on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 7:00pm.  Following the performance will be a Zoom Q&A. Visitor Parking is a live, immersive, site specific multimedia piece rooted in contemporary dance that explores a variety of mental health problems in effort to advocate for the recognition and de-stigmatization of mental health related conditions.

Choreographed by Charly & Eriel Santagado in collaboration with the dancers, the piece calls upon mignolo's developing "translation" movement vocabulary accompanied by poetry, original music by Brian Curry and Teddy Hyde, set design by Andrew Lackland, and costume design by Bailey Benoot.

Tickets are $8 and available for purchase online.  Ticket holders will receive an email with access information on the day of the digital program, which will be available for 48 hours of asynchronous access.

mise en abyme by Charly Santagado will be presented at the New Jersey Film Festival on Friday, January 28th (available all day from 12:00am on for a virtual screening.) What happens when the muse of our daydreams is displaced by egoism parading as a deep exploration of identity? In mise en abyme, the “artist” is consumed with herself and gradually neglects her muse. As the room around her becomes increasingly ornate, the artist is more and more consumed by her “work”, which is merely a simultaneously idealized and dumbed down projection of herself. All the while, the muse’s frustration at the emptiness of the whole endeavor swells. 2021; 5 min. Click here for more information.

mignolo dance is a 501-c3 nonprofit contemporary dance company founded by sisters Charly & Eriel Santagado. They have been dancing and creating together for more than ten years and use this experience to continue to collaborate with each other and other dancers and artists throughout the tristate area. Their work explores elements of various artistic mediums through the lens of movement.
