Stoner-rock veteran George Pierro (Solarized, Maegashira) has a new project 00 (Double Zero) whose full-length debut album, “Volume,” on Bandcamp is a fundraiser for Forked River-based Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, where he is pictured with his children, “Brother” George and Anna. The epic six-song LP’s opening track, “Solitary Waltz,” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week. PHOTO BY MOLLIE PIERRO
Two of my favorite people in the New Jersey music scene are Jim and Reg Hogan of Daisycutter, Solarized and Heat Blast Records. So a friend of theirs is a friend of mine, and that’s the case with their Solarized band mate George Pierro.
George’s latest project, 00 (pronounced Double Zero), continues his tradition of stoner/doom rock, which he also expressed with Maegashira and Tarpit Boogie. The instrumental one-man band’s new full-length debut album, “Volume,” on Bandcamp (https://00-nj.bandcamp.com/album/volume-00) is a fundraiser for Popcorn Park Animal Refuge. The Forked River-based zoo-like sanctuary and its Associated Humane Society parent organization will benefit from all proceeds of the epic six-song LP, which opens with the menacing “Solitary Waltz,” the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Solitary Waltz” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 2 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you also can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin or MixCloud.
00’s 2020 debut EP, “Demonstration XX/XX,” also benefited Associated Humane Society and its kid-friendly Popcorn Park Animal Refuge. George and his wife, Mollie, often enjoy the zoo with their wee children, Anna and “Brother” George.
