originally published: 04/12/2024

(METUCHEN, NJ) -- Join Cynthia Sayer and her Joyride Quartet for a special evening of Hot Jazz and Swing from the days of Prohibition and the banjo-crazed Roaring 20's on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at The Parlor at Hailey's Harp & Pub in Metuchen.  The event begins at 7:00pm.

Praised for her “drive and virtuosity” by The New York Times, instrumentalist/vocalist/ bandleader Cynthia Sayer is renowned for bringing the swinging sounds of jazz banjo to concert and festival audiences worldwide.

A 2023 Steve Martin Banjo Prize winner and an American Banjo Hall of Famer, Sayer is a pioneering artist who pays tribute to America’s musical heritage through her virtuoso playing, engaging vocals, and informative, entertaining anecdotes. Cynthia is a multi-instrumentalist heard on feature film and TV soundtracks and has appeared on numerous national TV and radio shows, performed at The White House, played with The New York Philharmonic and The New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and is a longtime founding member of Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band.

Cynthia Sayer is also an avid educator. She has been a guest clinician at The Berklee College Of Music, The New School and others, given multiple educational programs at Lincoln Center, in public schools, and more. She’s on the faculty of the NY Hot Jazz Camp, gives lessons and workshops. Her play-along program, You're IN The Band is popular with players of all instruments learning and practicing traditional/hot jazz and swing. Her newest book for banjo, guitar and mandolin The Swinging Solos Of Elmer Snowden, was published in 2022. For more info please visit www.cynthiasayer.com and follow her on Instagram @cynthiasayerbanjo.
