(BLOOMFIELD, NJ) -- After being closed for the better part of twelve years, Bloomfield’s historic Sanctuary at the Church on the Green will reopen to the public with a Benefit Concert on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 7:00pm. The “Sanctuary on the Green” Benefit Concert will feature a host of local theatre, dance and musical groups as well as Broadway performers who call Bloomfield their home.
Proceeds from the concert will help restore this beloved town treasure and equip it to function as both a worship space and a performing arts venue for greater Bloomfield. The concert is produced on behalf of the church by NiCori Studios & Productions.
At the heart of Bloomfield’s history, the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green takes its name from the Revolutionary War hero, Major Joseph Bloomfield. The original congregation was organized in 1796. Construction of the Sanctuary began the following year. Built of local Belleville brownstone and conforming to the popular Wren-Gibbs model used in most early American churches, the Sanctuary houses turn-of-the-century stained glass windows of opalescent and American Cathedral glass, as well as mouth blown antique glass painted in the traditional Trace and Matte technique. The Sanctuary was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and is one of three buildings on the church campus to be included in the Library of Congress’ Historic American Buildings Survey of the 1930s, documenting America’s architectural heritage.
Tap dance sensation Karen Callaway Williams and Broadway’s Liz McCartney are scheduled to be the headlining special guests for the concert. Also performing will be the Bloomfield Youth Band, Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra, Broadway Performing Arts, NiCori Studios & Productions, Bloomfield Chorale, Shooting Star Dance Center, Culture Connection Theatre, The Church on the Green Chapel Choir and more! All performers are subject to change.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for students/senior citizens in advance and $40 for adults and $25 for students/senior citizens at the door. Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling 973-743-1796.
