(ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council (AHAC) has issued a call to photographers for their Black & White & Monochrome - A Juried Photography Exhibition, which will run from March 12 to April 16, 2022. Many photographers who began taking pictures started with black and white film and discovered the joys of processing and printing. AHAC would like to showcase creative photographers who continue to express their vision with a preference toward the unconventional: black and white and monochrome media.
For this open call, they are looking for original photos created from film, pinhole, and digital cameras or even no camera! Photograms, silver gelatin or inkjet prints, cyanotypes and other prints using alternative processes are eligible.
The entry deadline is February 15th and notification of accepted works will be February 28th. There is a $25 submission fee for AhArts members and $35 for non-members. The submission fee includes two entries. You can pay the fee online or choose to have an invoice sent to you via email if you wish to pay by Venmo, cash, or check. PayPal and debit/credit cards are accepted with the online payment form.
The prospectus is available for downloading here.

Originally a self-taught photographer, Doug Schwab was working as a staff photographer for the major defense contractor ITT, when he first took classes in photography. It was at this time that he studied with George Tice and Lisette Model at the New School. Schwab sees photography as a simple craft that can be a wonderful combination of technology, self-expression, and communication.
Schwab has his MFA from Brooklyn College, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in the Photography Area of the Art Department. Prior to teaching photography at Brooklyn College, Schwab’s teaching included: The Germain School of Photography, NY; Pratt Institute, NY; Adelphi University, NY; Kingsborough Community College, NY, (CUNY); and New York College of Technology, NY (CUNY).
Schwab’s work is collected here and abroad and his numerous exhibitions include the Lana Santorelli Gallery, Henry Gregg Gallery, Patterson Museum, and Brooklyn Public Library.
The Atlantic Highlands Arts Council (AHAC) is an all-volunteer organization comprised of a dedicated group of core volunteers who make up their Board of Directors, as well as many volunteers who gallery sit and offer their services on committees.
Their mission is to strengthen community through the arts.
Formed in 2004, the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council (AHAC) transitioned from acting as "Mayor's Council on the Arts" in 2006 to an incorporated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization starting in 2007. Over the years, new partnerships and creative programming has blossomed. AHAC presents rotating exhibitions in our main gallery and window displays; an ArtSHOP boutique for local arts, wares, and jewelry; adult art classes and workshops; free summer art camp for youth; free Art Kits for Kids to local elementary and middle schools; community events; and our annual international and award-winning FilmOneFest. Founded in 2008, FilmOneFest is the Jersey Shore's preeminent showcase for all forms of short film under two minutes in length.
The gallery is located at 54 First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands, and they are actively engaged in growing their regional outreach and collaborative projects.
