(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The Directors of Art Fair 14C have selected Mana Contemporary and Nyugen E. Smith (shown above) for the Excellence in Curation Award for the 4th Edition of Art Fair 14C.
The Mana Contemporary exhibition in Booth C26 showcases the Bundlehouse work of Jersey City artist Smith, who uses found object sculpture, mixed media drawing, painting, photography, and writing to examine the impacts of colonialism on the African diaspora.
The prize for the award is a lunch with Diana Burroughs, Director of Marlborough Gallery, as well as Art Fair 14C Executive Director Robinson Holloway.
“I am so honored to have Mana Contemporary’s booth at Art Fair 14C be recognized for Excellence in Curation," said Mana Director Kele McComsey.
"This project began as an effort to show case the talented artists that work and create at Mana Contemporary. Nyugen E. Smith is one of those remarkable artists that embodies what it means to be part of a larger community by consistently making work that is both impactful and accessible to everyone. We are so grateful to have this Jersey City native be represented in this years event.
I am a firm believer that good curation is a partnership and this booth would not be possible without Nyugen’s vision and direction. We sought to make this year’s booth an extension of the Bundle House narrative by immersing the viewers within a cohesive space where they could focus on the art – not an easy task at an art fair.
Thank you to all the Judges at 14C for this award – it means so much.
I also want to thank my team at Mana Contemporary- Kristin DeAngelis, Angel Herrara, and Daniel Sacks for making it all possible."
Art Fair 14C provides a showcase for hundreds of artists from New Jersey, New York and around the world, giving area art lovers exposure to a wide variety of visual arts, of all kinds and for all budgets.
