2023 Teaneck International Film Festival to Open with Screening of "Invisible Beauty"

originally published: 10/07/2023

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The 18th Teaneck International Film Festival begins Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Teaneck Cinemas, 503 Cedar Lane – when, once again, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Bergen / Passaic Chapter presents the opening film:  Invisible Beauty.  The documentary is about fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison, a pioneering Black model, modeling agent, and activist, who has had, and continues to have, a major impact on the fashion industry – in front of the camera and behind the scenes. The screening begins at 7:30pm.

In this film, which she co-directed with Frederic Tcheng, Hardison shines a light on an untold chapter in the fight for racial diversity.  The film features Tracee Ellis Ross, Naomi Campbell, Tyson Beckford, Zendaya, Iman, Whoopi Goldberg, Fran Lebowitz, and Kadeem Hardison.

A talkback will follow the screening of the film; guests to be announced.  Tickets for opening night sell out fast, so reserve a spot early. Tickets are available for purchase online.

The Teaneck International Film Festival is held in partnership with the Puffin Foundation, Ltd., November 5-12.  This year “the film festival with a social conscience” will be dedicated to the late Bob McGrath, beloved resident of Teaneck and Sesame Street.   On Sunday, November 5 at 1:30pm, in the Teaneck Public Library Auditorium, the popular program (long emceed by Bob), Kid Flicks One, will be shown free for children 5-10 years old and the adults who accompany them.

The virtual part of the festival will begin Sunday, November 5th.  Ticket holders will be able to watch three films at any time between November 5-12 and enjoy a pre-recorded talkback following each screening.  The virtual films this year are the Pakistani feature, Joyland, and two documentaries: Las Abogadas, about immigration, and Jews of the Wild West.
