NJPAC presents virtual workshop: Archeology of The Self with Yolanda Sealey Ruiz - Sustaining Racial Literacy in the Arts.

(NEWARK, NJ) -- In an ongoing effort to bring the community together and to encourage the public to participate in the movement to ensure civil rights for all, NJPAC continues to present its continuous Standing in Solidarity mission with programs and workshops focused on promoting racial equality.

On Monday, September 26, participate in a virtual workshop: Archeology of The Self with Yolanda Sealey Ruiz - Sustaining Racial Literacy in the Arts. This virtual professional development live cast workshop will inspire, educate, and reinvigorate one’s teaching strategies. Sharon Stroye, Rutgers University-Newark, facilitates this Racial Healing Circle. 

Attendees can reserve their spot by donating to Eventbrite to secure the Zoom link. There are a 1.5 hours Professional Development certificate available upon request.

Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research has appeared in several top-tier academic journals. She is co-editor of four books and is co-author of Advancing Racial Literacies in Teacher Education: Activism for Equity in Digital Spaces where she examines her concept of Archeology of Self in education. At Teachers College, she is founder of the Racial Literacy Roundtables Series where for twelve years, national scholars, teachers, and students facilitate conversations around race and other issues involving diversity. Yolanda appeared in Spike Lee’s “2 Fists Up: We Gon’ Be Alright” (2016), a documentary about the Black Lives Matter movement and the campus protests at Mizzou. Her first full-length collection of poetry, Love from the Vortex & Other Poems, was published in March 2020. Her sophomore book of poetry, The Peace Chronicles, was published in July, 2021.

(CARTERET, NJ) -- New Jersey's most popular Latin Fest will return on Saturday, July 26, 2025 to Carteret, but this year in a new location: the Borough's accessible Civic Center Park and Sports Complex at 272 Pershing Ave. The venue change is due to ongoing construction improvements to Waterfront Park, the home of Latin Fest since 2018.

50th Monmouth County Fair to Take Place July 23-27

(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- The Monmouth County Fair is marking its 50th anniversary with opening night hot air balloon rides and a spectacular firework display (both are weather permitting). Held at East Freehold Showgrounds, Kozloski Road, Freehold, this year's event runs Wednesday-Sunday, July 23-27. Hours are 4:00pm-11:00pm Wednesday-Friday, July 23-25; 11:00am-11:00pm on Saturday, July 26; and 11:00am-6:00pm on Sunday, July 27.

(HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- Mercer County Executive Dan Benson and Mercer County 4-H invite residents to showcase their creative talents and skills at the 106th Annual Mercer County 4-H Fair! The Fair is an inspirational community event, celebrating agriculture, innovation, and the talent of Mercer County residents. The fair takes place Saturday, July 26 from 10:00am to 8:00pm and Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission and parking are free to all attendees.

Creativity Deep Dive: Class for Adults at Vivid Stage

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, is offering a new creative class especially for adults over the last weekend in July. Creativity Deep Dive, taught by professor and playwright Phoebe Farber, is an opportunity for grown-ups to have the fun of exploring their own imaginations and creative potential. The class is offered from 10:00am-2:00pm on July 26 and 27; lunch will be provided.
