originally published: 08/28/2016

(EWING, NJ) -- From the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan to the Top of the Standard in Los Angeles to Lola’s Trailer Park in Fort Worth, TX, musicians are banding together for The Concert Across America to End Gun Violence on Sunday, September 25th.  At Trinity UMC in Ewing, NJ, there will be a full day of music, food, speakers, art, peace, remembrance and much more as part of this national effort.

Musicians include “foot stomping, house rocking, hip shaking, 1960s soul” powerhouse York Street Hustle, Jeffrey Gaines, Grammy winning Corey Glover from Living Colour, Kevin John Allen, Kevin Toft, Miche Braden, The Williamsboy, The May Darlings, Joe Miller and Kuf Knotz, Craig Smith and Brian Jacobs and more to be announced.

Artworks Trenton is coordinating an art exbhibit and live painting with work centering around the message of peace and non-violence.  Submissions of art at all skill levels, fitting in the theme, can be made via their website.

Pop Anthology is coordinating a film festival that will include short films from independent filmmakers from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  They will also be screening 91%: A Film About Guns In America, a film that features victims of gun violence sharing their stories of loss, pain and their heroic search for hope in a nation stalled in a senseless gun control debate.

New Jersey based advocacy groups will also provide materials, information and speakers throughout the day.  Among them are Moms Demand Action – New Jersey, Mercer County Million Mom March, Tre’ Devon Lane Foundation, Gays Against Guns - New Jersey Chapter, with plenty more to be announced.  Mercer County Board of Elections will also be on hand conducting voter registration.

Spearheaded by Massachusetts-based Stop Handgun Violence (SHV), Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, and dozens of other organizations committed to reducing gun violence, this nationwide effort will feature a diverse array of artists performing at venues ranging from churches and school gymnasiums to honky-tonks, hotel rooftops and theatres.

From the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, CA to the Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA, artists will be performing to give voice to the more than five million Americans who have been murdered by a firearms since the mass shooting at the University of Texas on Aug. 1, 1966.

SHV Founder John Rosenthal said “In the midst of America’s epidemic of gun violence that results in 90 deaths, over 200 injuries and a mass shooting every day, this powerful coast-to-coast concert and organizing effort will raise awareness and - very importantly - get out the vote on gun violence prevention in the November elections and beyond.”
