The Wellmont Theater presents Aly & AJ

originally published: 04/25/2019

(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Sisters Aly and AJ Michalka (aka Aly & AJ), the duo sensation that brought “Potential Breakup Song” and other tunes to the Billboard charts, will be playing tracks off their EP, “Ten Years,” and other new hits at the Wellmont Theater on May 14, 2019 at 8:00pm.

With over 2 million albums sold worldwide, Aly & AJ have a newfound sound and confidence that only comes after a decade-plus in the music/entertainment industry. The sisters, who’ve each found separate fame on the silver and small screens, have returned from a musical hiatus to showcase their latest EP, “Ten Years” – which has registered over 9 million streams on Spotify.

Their 2017 EP features breathy vocals and experiments with wistful synths and drum-machine beats. Their new sound makes them a force to be reckoned with – across tracks like “The Distance,” “I Know” and “Take Me.”

Critics have praised the EP and its 1980s-inspired music and production. “Ten Years” peaked at no. 25 on the U.S. Independent Albums chart and it has ushered them to the next wave of success – which finds them dropping more new music, including 2019’s “Church,” off their upcoming EP, “Sanctuary.”

The duo had also registered earlier hits, including “Hothouse,” “Greatest Time of Year” and others. Their debut album, “Into the Rush” (2005), debuted at no. 36 on the Billboard 200 and later earned a gold certification. Their sophomore album, “Insomniatic,” peaked at no. 15 on the charts, with nearly 40,000 copies sold in the first week.

Both musicians have found fame in film and television, too. AJ Michalka has starred as Lainey Lewis on ABC’s sitcom “The Goldbergs” and its spin-off series, “Schooled.” She also has a lead role in the Netflix series “She-Ra and the Princess of Power.”

Similarly, Aly Michalka initially gained fame for her role as Keely Teslow in Disney Channel’s “Phil of the Future,” and has other acting credits including “Easy A” and “Hellcats,” and a series regular role on The CW’s “iZombie.”

The Wellmont Theater is located at 5 Seymour Street in Montclair, New Jersey.
