The October 2014 Issue of New Jersey Stage magazine

originally published: 10/19/2014
Happy Halloween from New Jersey Stage! Our latest issue (October 2014) has a distinctly Halloween look and feel. Featuring articles on local indie horror filmmakers, songs from a new Halloween compilation, vampire books and monster artwork, the latest issue is available www.NJArtsMag.com

"One of the coolest things we discovered when we first started publishing New Jersey Stage was the incredible local indie horror film scene," explained Gary Wien, publisher of New Jersey Stage. "There's an amazing connection between filmmakers, actors, and horror fans in this area. We couldn't wait for Halloween to help promote some of the artists involved. In this issue, we have features on Infliction, Manhunt, and Carver -- a film by a 14-year-old that has garnered media attention around the world."

The issue also contains an interview with Gail Petersen, an artist best known for her work in the rock band The Catholic Girls, but whose book "The Making of a Monster" has recently been re-released, several spooky music tracks by artists found on the new Halloween compilation by Lump 'N' Loaf Records, and a look at a special Halloween show being presented at The Saint in Asbury Park. In addition, our cover photo is one of several wonderful pieces of monster art in the issue by Robert Nicol.

New Jersey Stage continues its music coverage with features on Williams Honor, the latest band from Gordon Brown (Mr. Reality/Highway 9) and Reagan Richards, Tommy Strazza, and The Porchistas. The featured music video of the month is "Drop A Needle On The King" by Tara Elliott & The Red Velvets. The issue also contains the latest singles by Williams Honor and The Porchistas.

Comedians Bret Ernst and Corey Rodriguez are featured along with a look at "New Jersey: Paved & Confused", a special show by Second City coming to Newark. The issue contains rare videos of Second City with alums Steve Carrell, Mike Myers, and Tina Fey.

"Two of our favorite pieces in the issue are rather heavy subjects: the issue of segregation and education in Lines In The Dust by Nikkole Salter and Carolyn Dorfman's performance in memory of The Night of Broken Glass," continued Wien. "We also have a tribute to Paul Barry, the co-founder of the NJ Shakespeare Festival who passed away last month."
