The Newton Theatre Presents the Music of Cream on June 23rd

originally published: 09/14/2021

(NEWTON, NJ) -- Cream is arguably one of the most influential rock bands in history and one of the first true supergroups. Formed in the UK in 1966 and disbanding in 1969, their time together was short-lived but in that time they released four albums that won over fans and critics alike.

Now, Kofi Baker, the son of Ginger Baker, has partnered with Will Johns, Eric Clapton’s nephew, in forming the “Music of Cream.” The trio is touring extensively playing a generous mix of the band’s songs, highlighting Cream’s studio and live work. This unique project began in 2017 to celebrate Cream’s 50th Anniversary in Australia and New Zealand. Such was the response, they have since played hundreds of these shows to tens of thousands of fans, across North America and the U.K.

Cream was a chemical explosion like no other, the blueprint for every supergroup to follow and the heavy blues precursor to Hendrix, Zeppelin and so much more. More than fifty years since their earth-shaking debut album, family members of that hallowed trilogy come together to pay tribute to Cream's legendary four-album reign over the psychedelic frontier of the late 1960s.

Experience a once-in-a-lifetime concert salute to the most innovative and explosive supergroups of all time, in the hands of family that knew them best. Watch as they interplay live with their fathers on the big screen; classic moments in rock history brought back to life. Listen as they share personal insights and stories, complete with rare, yet to be seen family footage and photographs. A backstage pass like no other.

The Music of Cream will be playing Cream’s seminal album, Disraeli Gears, from top to bottom, followed by the Clapton classics they've been asked to play ever since their journey began.
