The Newton Theatre Presents a Silent Film Halloween With A Live Orchestra

(NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents a trio of ghostly silent films paired with the original historic orchestral scores on Saturday, October 27 at 3:00pm. Travel back to the early 1900s to cheer and hiss with Buster Keaton in The Haunted House (1921), Laurel and Hardy in Habeus Corpus (1928), and Charlie Chaplin in One A.M. (1916). Between the films, enjoy the rollicking rhythms of the early 20th century as played by The Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra, featuring favorites by Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, and more! Fun for the whole family!

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by the Washington Post, and is rapidly becoming the leading professional ragtime orchestra in the United States. Formed by young virtuoso Andrew Greene at the University of Maryland in 2010, the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra recreates the syncopated stylings of a bygone era – Ragtime, Theater, and Dance music, along with underscoring classic silent films using the original orchestral scores.

The PRSO has appeared at leading venues including The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, The American Film Institute, historic theaters, state-of-the-art performing arts centers, colleges, universities, and concert associations across the United States.

Funding has been made available in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission through the County History Partnership Program, as administered by the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council.

The Newton Theatre is located at 234 Spring Street in Newton, NJ.  Tickets are just $10 and are available for purchase at The Newton Theatre box office, online at www.TheNewtonTheatre.com, or by calling 973-940-NEWT.
