(UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages at Kean University presents a virtual reading of "Councilman" by Lucien Edme (Class of '21) on Tuesday, January 19 at 3:20pm. The Bauer Boucher Student Playwriting Award winning play will be directed by John J. Wooten. The reading will be performed via Zoom followed by a short Q&A with the playwright.
Thrust into a middle school full of power-hungry tyrants in the making, Wesley Grande, a new kid at St. Thomas Public School, plans to run for class president. With the help of his best friend, Wesley promises to “bring power back to the underdog”, but soon must decide what matters more to him: Power or Respect.
The reading is free, but registration is required. Click here to register for the reading.
The Bauer Boucher Playwriting Awards, created in 2014 with generous support by Premiere Stages supporters W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher, recognize the work of one Kean student and one Kean alumnus each year. The project supports Kean University writers with enhanced visibility, dramaturgical feedback, a cash award, and the opportunity to hear their plays read out loud by an ensemble of professional actors.
The 2021 Bauer Boucher Award Readings will benefit the Kean Foundation. Donations will help support Premiere Stages education initiatives, particularly those that support emerging artists. Premiere Stages is committed to compensating all artists for their work. Please consider making a donation to the Kean University Foundation to cover program costs.
