(EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Playhouse 22, East Brunswick’s Community Theater, will close out it 58th season with the production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Running June 9 – 25, The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical comedy with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.
The show is a parody of classic American musical comedies of the 1920s. It about a middle-aged, asocial musical theater fan; as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. The Broadway production opened on Broadway in 2006.
Directed by Tom Frascatore with choreography by Shona Roebuck and music direction by Mark McGee, Playhouse 22’s performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. All general admission tickets are $15, and can be purchased online at Playhouse22.org; calling the Box Office at (732) 254-3939; or at the door on the day of the performance.
Playhouse 22 is conveniently located at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, New Jersey.
The theater’s 2017-2018 season starts on September 8 with My Fair Lady.
