(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University announces its latest exhibit in the Osprey Gallery, the works of artist Danielle Jonas entitled “&,” which will be on exhibit from June 25 through July 25, 2015. The official opening of “&” will be held during Second Friday at the Garage on July 10, between 6pm and 8pm, where guests will be able to meet and talk with the artist.
Jonas’ collection of work in “&,” was inspired by her grandmother’s journey of healing as she battled through six months of chemotherapy treatments for Lymphoma. Jonas realized that the process of healing was not limited to the singular experience of her grandmother, but was affected by the people in her life, hence Jonas began to document her grandmother’s relationships. The documentation process revealed the different relationships people had with themselves, others, their professions and how those associations impacted them in positive, negative or mixed ways. Whatever the components of those experiences, they formed a connective thread amongst all of the subjects. Correlating her grandmother’s lifelong profession as a seamstress, Jonas established complex vignettes through the layering of materials, stories, and sporadic text or bar codes in her work.
Jonas lives in Barnegat, New Jersey. She graduated from Barnegat High School in 2010 with the desire to continue her education with the focus on art. Jonas was accepted at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and later went on to attend Ocean County College where she received her Associates of Science Degree. She continued her studies at Stockton University, where in 2014 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting, with a minor in Art History. It is her intent to complete her Masters and become a professor at a university.
Galleries in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey have exhibited Jonas’ work. To her credit are several awards and publications which include ‘Best in Show’ at the LBIF of Arts & Sciences. Her work was selected for the Nexus International Juried Exhibition. Most recently, Jonas has been published in Stockton Innovations Vol. 3 issue 1: “A Personal Evolution: Confrontation and Sexuality.”
