(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The final performance of the 2019 INKUBATE® Dance Festival will take place on Wednesday, July 31 at 7:00pm. This is the fifth consecutive summer the New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble and Reeves-Reed Arboretum have collaborated on the site-specific series of three dance performances throughout the gardens of the Arboretum in Summit.
The performance will feature AiR® Artists Kiley Dolaway and Jessica Smith, dancers with VIM/VIGOR Dance Co., Spencer Grossman, Devon Travis, and NJDTE dancers performing excerpts from ‘Warriors’ by Elizabeth Koeppen-Kalosieh and 'Spheres’ by Nancy Turano.
“We continue to realize our vision of establishing Summit as a serious destination for dance and culture in the region. It is important to see opportunities and think ‘out of the box’, which is what initiated the concept of INKUBATE® = DANCE + NATURE, a unique site-specific, outdoor dance festival,” says NJDTE Artistic Director Nancy Turano.
In 2018, over 500 nature and arts enthusiasts immersed themselves in the INKUBATE® site-specific performance experience.
Since 2015, NJDTE has provided an Artist-in-Residency® program for contemporary dance artists and choreographers at their NJDTE studios in downtown Summit. These curated residencies culminate in INKUBATE® outdoor performances at nearby Reeves-Reed Arboretum. Turano invites contemporary choreographers and provides space for them investigate movement which enables them to grow their ideas into a body of work. These artists then can further that exploration in one of the INKUBATE® site-specific dance events.
Grounds open at 6:00pm for audience members to picnic. Tickets are free for Arboretum members, $15 donation for non-members, and $5 for students. On-Site parking is available upon arrival to the Arboretum near the performance space.
Reeves-Reed Arboretum is located at 165 Hobart Avenue in Summit, New Jersey. Arboretum grounds open at 6pm for garden picnics.
