originally published: 06/25/2015

Monmouth County Library Presents Screening of "Shadows"(Shrewsbury, NJ) -- On Saturday, June 27, the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, located at 1001 Route 35 in Shrewsbury, will be presenting the film “Shadows” at 1:30pm. Tackling the subject of bullying, “Shadows” was produced by the Cinematique School in Eatontown, in association with the Performance with Passion Players. The brainchild of Cathy Jenkins (Wanamassa), Debby Schwartz (Tinton Falls) and Rafe Serebreny (West Long Branch), the film utilized students from Cinematique, as well as local actors.

Included in the cast of “Shadows” are Nick Chavez II (Eatontown), Sammy Lane (Freehold), Yianni Digaletos (Highlands), Sami DeSocio (Holmdel), Mikayla Long (Howell), Isabella Bedore (Howell), Sophia Bedore (Howell), Antonio Venditti (Howell), Haley Boho (Howell), Caitlyn Stillwell (Howell), Judi Alexander (Howell), Bella Hartman (Middletown), Jack Hanson (Middletown), Paul Caliendo (Monmouth Beach), Irene Hoylie (Neptune), Joey Ristaino (Neptune), Anastacia Villapiano (Neptune), Jillian Cavaliere (Ocean), Andrea John (Red Bank), Skylar Simone (Shrewsbury) and Gary Winters (Toms River). Also appearing in the film is Ava Bonanno, who is the daughter of JoBonanno of Godsons Of Soul fame.

Many of the young actors in the film had some experience with bullying. “I was bullied at my job,” stated Jillian Cavaliere. She explained that she made it through her situation with the help of her friends.

Mikayla Long, whom attended Howell Middle School, not only acted in the film but wrote two of the songs in the film. “I drew from my memories,” stated Long, basically utilizing the Stanislavski Method she learned from Debby Schwartz in her Cinematique classes.

While the film does a good job of showing the effects on children from being bullied by other children, there is some adult bullying taking place also. This film is a must-see for both children and parents. For more information, visit www.monmouthcountylib.org. To find out more about Cinematique, visit www.cinemanj.com.
