Asbury indie great Mike Chick of Yawn Mower has created an instant Halloween classic, “Ding! Dong! Fill My Plastic Pumpkin!”
In the cemetery spirit of a Misfits-inspired “Monster Mash,” the infectious holiday jam is like a box of Count Chocula or Frankenberry for your ears. As sweet as candy corn, the indie-pop treat from Mint 400 Records is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Ding! Dong!” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 29 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com.
Best known for his work with the great Asbury indie two-piece Yawn Mower, Mike sang and played all the instruments except for the drums, which were handled by the Jersey Shore’s Bill Bourke at Ocean County Vocational Technical School in Toms River and Waving Cat, also at the Shore. The song was mixed and mastered by Pat Noon at eightsixteen recording in South River with artwork by Dr. Wolfenbergen.
Mike recently played “Ding! Dong!” live at the Pet Shop in Jersey City in a bill that included Mint 400 label mates The Milwaukees and Tom Barrett.
His other Mint 400 solo releases include his previous single, “How Many in a Few?”
